OXON HILL, Md. (WUSA9) -- A Forestville man is being accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend inside of her Oxon Hill home in May, Prince George's County police said.

Maurice Wigfall Jr., 26, of Forestville was arrested for murdering Latiqua Cherry, 21, of Oxon Hill on May 17, police said.

Fire crews responded to the home located in the 600 block of Audrey Lane around 5 a.m. for the report of smoke in the apartment building. The flames were put out and the body of a woman was found inside.

Authorities learned that Cherry had died from trauma to her body before the fire was set.

Wigfall is being charged with first and second degree murder and arson. He was already in custody at the Department of Corrections on an unrelated charge.
