Red, White, and Blue at Launch Zone!

Red, White, and Blue at Launch Zone!

On Wednesday, July 29th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., join the National Children's Museum at Launch Zone on Waterfront Street to celebrate Independence Day with astonishing firework art.

You will have the chance to create festive artwork that resembles the Fourth of July with your family!

The Launch Zone at National Harbor is a 2,700 square-foot space open to the public seven days a week. It is a place where children can prototype exhibit components and programs and participate in fun and educational programs related to the Children's Museums core content areas.

"Safe Summer" Kick-off in Prince George's County

"Safe Summer" Kick-off in Prince George's County

The Safe Summer program is a late night recreation initiative to promote healthy and positive lifestyles  through creative engagements and leadership training. From June 24th  to August 13th, the Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation is extending operating hours from 10 pm to midnight at twenty-two community facilities to give young people, ages 12-24, free access to their favorite recreational activities.  The “Teen Fest” event attracted over 400 participants from across Prince George’s County. Sponsored in part by WPGC and CBS Radio, it featured open mic performances, video games, rock climbing, campfires, swimming and roller skating, all free of charge for teens in attendance.

Summer Food Service Program Ensures Students Don't Go Hungry

This information comes to us from Prince George's County Public Schools:

 Although Maryland is home to three of the richest counties in the nation (Howard, Montgomery and Calvert), 11.1 percent of households in Maryland (or 1 in 9) face a constant struggle against hunger. When schools are closed during the summer months, students who receive free or reduced-price meals throughout the school year are at risk for not receiving the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow.

CycleFest at National Harbor

The National Children’s Museum (NCM) will celebrate its second annual CycleFest at the Launch Zone and a nearby site on American Way in National Harbor, Md. on Saturday, June 25th. CycleFest promises to have a lot of visual value, as we are expecting 1,000+ attendees and will have a lot of action going on along American Way.  Formally known as Bicycle Safety Day, families are invited to prepare their bicycles for a safe summer and enjoy a free day of:
  • Bicycle obstacle courses provided by Trails for Youth;
  • Bicycle rodeos presented by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC);
  • Testing Calleva’s ziplines and wall climbing course at a discounted cost;
  • Winning raffle prizes and much more

Anchors Away at National Harbor!

National Harbor is offering a wide array of events this summer including a ton of fun and educational programs for children.

We stopped by the National Children’s Museum Launch Zone on Waterfront Street to see what parents and kids can look forward to this summer.

“The National Children’s Museum is unique in that it provides children and families with interactive experiences virtually and physically with its sole mission to inspire children,” said The Children’s Museum Communications Manager Amy Lowman.

This fun, fast-paced program typically includes stories, games, art, music, experiments, drama, and movement for adults and children to experience together.
