The men and women; career, civilian and volunteer, of the Prince George’s County Fire/Emergency Medical Services Department have been sharing festive and joyous moments during this Holiday Season with our citizens, residents and visitors.

Rivertowne Movie Theatre Part II

Residents of Oxon Hill from years ago may remember the days of going out to the movies at the movie theatre in the Rivertowne Commons Market Place.

AMC Rivertowne 12 boasted 12 screening rooms and between 153 to 320 seats in each screening room.  In 2006 the theatre was closed, as the 20-year lease expired and the AMC company left Oxon Hill

Now Spotlight Amusements has picked up the space and is looking to revitalize the once popular movie theatre location.  This time, the movie theatre space will have seating that ranges between 150 to 600 people in each screening room, with at least three theatres with stadium-style seating, and 3-D capabilities.

County Executive Dedicates New 911 Call Center

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson today joined Public Safety Director Vernon Herron and several public safety officials to dedicate the new 911 Call Center in Bowie.

“When I became County Executive eight years ago, I knew that we needed to improve our public safety communications,” Johnson said.  “With the opening of this brand new facility and our new 700 megahertz radio system, we now have the best communications system in the country.”

Construction of the 40,000 square foot, $36 million facility began in March.  Officials expect to have the entire building operational by February 2011. The new facility will increase Fire/EMS and law enforcement dispatchers from 20 to 29 and also includes 32 console positions to process 911 calls.
