National Soccer Championship Comes to Prince George's Community College

For the first time in history, Prince George’s Community College will host the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Women’s Soccer Championship, Thursday, November 4, 2010 through Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the college’s Largo campus.

Eight teams will be competing to be named the best team in the country as they take to the Prince George’s Community College’s newly renovated soccer field. Students will play four games on Thursday, November 4 and Friday, November 5. Three games will be played on Sunday.

Prince George's County Counterfeiter Pleads Guilty

Shango Taylor, age 33, of Forestville, Maryland, pleaded guilty today to counterfeiting U.S. currency.

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland (WUSA)-- For the general election, early voting centers will be open starting Friday October 22, 2010 through Thursday, October 28, 2010, except for Sunday, October 24th when early voting centers are closed.

Early voting centers will be open from 10 am until 8 pm each day of early voting. Anyone in line at 8 pm will be allowed to vote.

IHOP restaurants in the DC area will celebrate Halloween a little early this year, offering kids 12 and under a free Scary Face Pancake as part of a national No Tricks – Just Treats program designed to provide kids with a safe and fun Halloween event.  The “design-your-own” Scary Face Pancake includes an oversized signature buttermilk pancake with a whipped topping mouth and strawberry nose, served with two mini OREO® cookies and candy corn on the side to allow kids to create their own Halloween hotcake. 

IHOP wants to provide trick or treaters with a safe and fun Halloween celebration that they can enjoy with friends and family as part of the company’s ongoing effort to give something back to the communities in which it operates.

Police Officer Arrested in Theft of Guns

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Investigative Response Team has arrested and charged Corporal Juan D. Carter with Misconduct in Office, Theft, and “Theft Scheme” stemming from an internal investigation into the theft of several confiscated guns.  Carter has been remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections and a bond was set at $200,000.  Juan Carter is a 13-year veteran of the Prince George’s County Police Department, who had been assigned to the Maryland State Police led “Gun Interdiction Task Force” since September 2007. 

Rushern Baker To Focus On Education And Jobs In Prince George's

(WUSA) -- Prince George's County's presumptive next county executive has his top two priorities in order: education and job creation.

Democrat Rushern Baker visited 9NEWS NOW Wednesday morning. He is not facing a Republican challenger in the November 2 election, and is expected to succeed Jack Johnson as county executive.

Baker said during the recent primary campaign, the top question he got was about improving schools and education in Prince George's County. "It's the reason I ran for county executive," he told 9NEWS NOW's Andrea Roane. Baker said he wants to "make sure we focus on quality teachers in every classroom. That's what we need to have in Prince George's County. That would improve the quality of education throughout the county."
